We live in a world of
glorious colour. Every shade and hue performs a role, a function that is unique.
Colour differentiates objects and spaces, colour communicates moods, colour makes
a personal statement.
Below are some helpful tips to consider when you're choosing colours. |
| What effect do colours have? |
| 1. |
Functional: These colours are usually unobtrusive
and understated. Neutral shades that match anything. For instance, you may have all
your walls in a soft eggshell shade, but offset it with bold furniture. |
| 2. |
Decorative: this is where the colours
practically say, "look at me!" Golds and reds used as highlights, splashes of yellow for trimmings and skirtings are some examples. |
| 3. |
Emotional:Colours influence emotion. They can stimulate,
relax, cheer you up or make you melancholy. Various tones set the stage - moods tones,
earth tones, fresh tones, mild tones. |
| 4. |
Psychological: Every colour radiates its own energy. White suggests purity and innocence.
Red is active, bold and aggressive. Orange and yellow convey brightness. Blue creates a
calm, relaxed environment. Green is refreshing.
