Timbershade is a solid-colour paint rather than a transparent wood finish. It provides rich, even colour coverage, so it will cover most of the natural wood grain instead of allowing it to remain visible.
It is suitable for homeowners who want to refresh wooden surfaces with a bold, consistent colour. For a finish that highlights the natural wood grain, a transparent or pigmented timber coating may be more suitable.
Yes. Timbershade is formulated for both interior and exterior use and provides a durable acrylic finish for wood, galvanised iron and fibre cement boards. Its solid colours are designed to remain vibrant and consistent over time, making it suitable for surfaces exposed to Malaysia’s sunlight, rain and humidity.
For lasting exterior performance, the surface must be properly prepared and the recommended coating system should be followed.
Timbershade comes in a variety of solid colours to suit different home themes and surface applications. The shades provide strong, even coverage rather than a transparent timber tone.
Browse the Wood & Metal Collection colour card to explore the available options. Colours shown digitally may vary slightly from the actual painted finish.
Timbershade is touch-dry in approximately 30 minutes and hard-dry in about one hour. Allow two to three hours before applying the next coat.
Although it dries quickly, avoid heavy handling or exposing the surface to water until the paint has dried thoroughly. Drying time may vary depending on temperature, humidity, ventilation and coating thickness.
Wood paint can fade due to prolonged sunlight and weather exposure. Peeling or patchiness may occur when the surface is damp, dirty, greasy, unevenly sanded or coated before the previous layer has dried properly.
Using an unsuitable coating system or applying paint over loose existing paint can also weaken adhesion. Proper cleaning, sanding and application of the recommended undercoat and topcoats help produce a more even and durable result.
Timbershade uses a premium water-based acrylic paint formulation that dries to form a durable solid-colour coating over the wood. The acrylic binder helps the paint adhere to a properly prepared surface and provides lasting colour and protection for interior and exterior use.
Because it is water-based, it also has lower odour and environmental impact than conventional solvent-based paints, while offering fast drying and easy water clean-up after application.
Ensure that the wood is dry and free from dirt, grease, dust and other contaminants. Sand the surface until smooth, then remove all sanding residue before painting.
For previously painted wood, scrape away loose or flaking paint and sand uneven areas until smooth. A clean, dry and stable surface helps Timbershade adhere properly and produce a more even finish.
Timbershade is recommended specifically for galvanised iron rather than all types of metal. The surface should be dry and free from grease, dirt and other contaminants.
Remove any loose or flaking existing paint, then sand defective areas smooth. Apply the recommended primer before finishing with Timbershade. For other metal types, consult Nippon Paint for the appropriate coating system.
Make sure the fibre cement board is dry, clean and free from dust, dirt and other contaminants. Remove any loose particles and ensure the surface is sound before painting.
Conveniently, Timbershade can then be applied directly as the topcoat in two coats, following the recommended drying time between coats.
The recommended coating system depends on the surface:
Complete the system with two coats of Timbershade. Refer Technical Data Sheet
Apply two coats of Timbershade for even colour coverage and lasting protection. Allow approximately two to three hours between coats.
For wood and galvanised iron, apply the recommended undercoat or primer first. Actual coverage and the number of coats required may vary depending on the surface condition, porosity, colour and application method.
Timbershade is a practical choice for projects that need a durable solid-colour finish rather than a transparent wood look. It is suitable for repainting wooden doors, fences, fascia boards, outdoor furniture, galvanised iron features and fibre cement boards.
Its water-based, fast-drying and low-odour formula also makes it well suited for home renovation and DIY projects where easier application, quicker completion and simple water clean-up are preferred.
Timbershade is water-based, low in VOC and odour, and formulated without added lead or mercury. This helps reduce strong paint fumes and environmental impact compared with conventional solvent-based coatings.
These features make it a practical choice for families, indoor spaces and homeowners seeking a more environmentally responsible wood and multi-surface paint. Good ventilation should still be maintained during application and drying.
Yes. Timbershade is part of Nippon Paint’s Green Choice range and is endorsed under the Singapore Green Label. The product page also identifies it as having Singapore Green Building Product certification.
