FAQ

9000 Gloss Finish FAQs

High-gloss paint is best suited for wood and metal surfaces where a smooth, reflective and durable finish is desired. Common applications include wooden doors, window frames, cabinets and furniture, as well as metal gates, grilles, railings and door frames.

Because high-gloss paint reflects light, proper surface preparation is important to achieve a smooth and even appearance.

9000 Gloss Finish is a coloured gloss enamel paint rather than a clear protective coat. It is available in a range of popular colours designed to enhance wood and metal surfaces with a smooth, reflective finish.

Refer to Nippon Paint’s Wood & Metal Collection colour card for the available shades.

Yes. 9000 Gloss Finish is suitable for both interior and exterior wood and metal surfaces. It forms a smooth, tough paint film with excellent gloss, durability and fungus resistance, making it suitable for surfaces exposed to everyday wear as well as outdoor conditions.

Both products are solvent-based enamel topcoats that provide a durable, high-gloss finish for interior and exterior wood and metal surfaces.

9000 Gloss Finish focuses on excellent gloss, hiding power, durability and resistance against fungal growth. Odourlite Gloss Finish offers similar wood-and-metal protection but is specially formulated with lower odour for a more comfortable painting experience, particularly in occupied or enclosed spaces.

An uneven finish may result from poor surface preparation, insufficient sanding, uneven application, inadequate coverage or using an unsuitable primer or undercoat. Dirt, grease, rust and loose existing paint can also affect how smoothly the topcoat dries.

Gloss may gradually reduce due to sunlight, moisture, abrasion, frequent cleaning and general wear. Proper preparation and the recommended coating system help maintain a smooth and reflective finish for longer.

Peeling and chipping can occur when paint is applied over dirt, grease, rust, moisture or a loose existing coating. Poor adhesion, insufficient drying between coats and using an unsuitable primer may also weaken the paint system.

Frequently touched or exposed surfaces can gradually wear through impact, friction and regular use. Proper preparation and the correct primer, undercoat and topcoat system help improve overall durability.

9000 Gloss Finish provides good hiding power and forms a smooth, solid paint film that helps create a more uniform appearance. Its strong colour coverage can reduce the visibility of minor colour differences and small surface variations.

However, high-gloss finishes can also reflect light and make deeper dents, rough textures or uneven repairs more noticeable. These defects should be filled, sanded and properly prepared before painting.

Ensure the wood is dry and free from dirt, grease, dust and other contaminants. Sand the surface until smooth, then remove all sanding residue before applying the recommended coating system.

For previously painted wood, remove any loose or defective coating and lightly sand the remaining sound paint to improve adhesion. Repaired or exposed areas should be spot-coated with the appropriate undercoat before applying the full topcoat.Refer Technical Data Sheet

Metal surfaces must be dry and free from dirt, oil, grease and other contaminants. Ferrous metal should be sanded or wire-brushed to remove rust and mill scale, followed by thorough dust removal.

Bare or exposed metal should then be coated with a suitable metal primer before the undercoat and gloss topcoat are applied. Proper preparation helps reduce peeling and corrosion beneath the paint film. Refer Technical Data Sheet

The appropriate primer and undercoat depend on the surface being painted, such as wood, ferrous metal, aluminium or galvanised iron. Each surface requires suitable preparation and a compatible primer before the undercoat and 9000 Gloss Finish are applied. Refer Technical Data Sheet

Complete the recommended coating system with two coats of 9000 Gloss Finish.

For bare wood or metal, 9000 Gloss Finish should not normally be applied as a standalone coating. Using the recommended primer and undercoat improves adhesion, coverage, surface levelling and long-term protection.

On previously painted surfaces that remain firm and compatible, direct recoating may be possible after proper cleaning and sanding. Any bare, rusty or repaired areas should first be spot-primed with the appropriate product. Refer Technical Data Sheet

Apply two coats of 9000 Gloss Finish over the recommended primer and undercoat system. Allow approximately eight hours before applying the next coat.

Drying time may vary depending on temperature, humidity, ventilation, coating thickness and application method.

9000 Gloss Finish combines excellent gloss with a smooth, tough and durable paint film for interior and exterior wood and metal surfaces. It enhances colour and appearance while helping protect surfaces against fungal growth, fading, chipping and everyday wear.

It is a suitable choice for homeowners in Malaysia who want a classic, reflective enamel finish with dependable durability and good hiding power, particularly in the country’s warm and humid climate.

Its tough enamel paint film provides resistance against chipping, fading and everyday wear, helping frequently used surfaces maintain their appearance for longer. The smooth gloss finish is also easier to wipe clean than many lower-sheen finishes.

This makes it suitable for doors, window frames, cabinets, gates, grilles, railings and other surfaces that experience regular handling or exposure.

Yes. 9000 Gloss Finish has been tested in accordance with BS 476: Part 6, which assesses fire propagation, and BS 476: Part 7, which assesses the spread of flame across a surface.

Its technical documentation also lists testing under MS 125:1995 for gloss enamel paint, as well as tests for colour retention, adhesion and paint-film hardness. These results demonstrate its tested performance under the specified conditions. Refer Technical Data Sheet
