Yes. Odourlite Soft Matt Finish provides water resistance and is formulated to help prevent rust on metal surfaces. Its coating helps shield properly prepared metal from moisture and oxidation, which are common causes of rust and corrosion.

However, existing rust must first be removed, and bare ferrous metal should be coated with a suitable metal primer, followed by Odourlite Undercoat and the recommended topcoats. It is a protective enamel finish rather than a dedicated waterproofing coating.

Yes. Odourlite Soft Matt Finish is formulated with fungus and algae resistance to help keep painted wood and metal surfaces cleaner and protected from biological growth.

Any existing fungus, algae or mould should be removed and the source of excess moisture addressed before painting. Applying paint directly over untreated growth may cause the problem to return.

For the recommended coating system, Odourlite Soft Matt Finish should not normally be applied directly to bare wood or metal.

Bare wood should receive one coat of 9000 Aluminium Wood Primer and one coat of Odourlite Undercoat before two topcoats. Ferrous metal should receive one coat of Red Oxide Primer or Zinc Phosphate Primer, followed by one coat of Odourlite Undercoat and two coats of Odourlite Soft Matt Finish. Ensure the wood is dry and free from dirt, dust, grease and other contaminants. Sand the surface until smooth, then remove all sanding residue before applying the recommended primer and undercoat.

For previously coated wood, remove loose or defective paint and sand the remaining sound coating to improve adhesion. Exposed or scraped areas should be treated with the appropriate primer or undercoat before the full topcoat is applied. Refer Technical Data Sheet

Metal surfaces must be dry and free from dirt, grease and other contaminants. Ferrous metal should be sanded or wire-brushed to remove rust and mill scale, then cleaned thoroughly before priming.

Bare or exposed metal areas should receive a suitable metal primer. Aluminium and galvanised iron require an appropriate etching primer or galvanised-metal primer before the rest of the coating system is applied. Refer Technical Data Sheet

The recommended system depends on the surface:

Complete the system with two coats of Odourlite Soft Matt Finish. Refer Technical Data Sheet

Apply two coats of Odourlite Soft Matt Finish over the recommended primer and undercoat system. Allow the first topcoat to dry overnight before applying the next coat.

Drying and recoating times may vary depending on ventilation, humidity, temperature, paint thickness and the amount of thinner used.

Although it is low odour, the area should still be well ventilated during application and drying.

Yes. Odourlite Soft Matt Finish has been tested in accordance with BS 476: Part 6, which assesses fire propagation, and BS 476: Part 7, which assesses the spread of flame across a surface.
